OUT OF STOCK - “Oriental Beauty” – Dong Fang Mei Ren

Location: Beipu Township, Hsinchu County
Altitude: 600 m
Harvest: Summer 2016
Profile: Before talking about the taste profile it is important to tell you the origin of Oriental Beauty. This tea, harvested in July, is always natural because the farmers need the green leafhopper to bite the tea. The damage caused by this insect initiates an oxidation process within the leaves which is crucial to obtain the typical flavors of natural sweet honey and ripe peach. Oriental Beauty is smooth, mellow, with a sweet aftertaste and perfect to drink throughout the day.

Served at its best:
Water: 80° - 85°
Traditional way : 1 g per 30 ml - 2 min
Up to 5 infusions with the same leaves
Western way: 4,5 g per 300 ml - 4 min

To find the best Oriental Beauty for you we travelled to Hsinchu County, the most famous Oriental Beauty growing area. More specifically we went to the small idyllic village of Beipu, to met Mr. Chang, our tea farmer. Another tea farmer in the mountains suggested us to go there. Because of our lack of Chinese and his lack of English, it was a visit with a lot of gestures and we needed help for the translation. Mr. Chang is very proud of his tea, but he also explained us the difficulties you face while producing it. You have to keep your garden natural so it can attract the insects. But it also depends on good luck. During the picking you have to be careful and pick only the leaves that have been attacked by the leafhopper to have a consistent taste.
Looking at his world globe together, it was unreal for Mr. Chang that his tea would “travel” to Europe. It made him proud, just like we are proud we can offer you this amazing tea.
